Candice, or Mills as we have lovingly come to know her, is one of our go-to babes. She has been on the top of our make-up list for years and it’s the mix of her down to earth nature, incredible make up skills and contagious laugh, that makes us love her so much.

She is bubbly, bright and brings so much fun to any room she walks into. If you are looking for a make-up artist who is going to make you feel right at home, who has years of experience, and who is just going to get you and your make-up needs for your wedding or any other soecial occasion – then Candice is your girl! Read about the gal behind the brand Blush Pro Makeup and learn about her journey into the world of makeup. Over to Candice!

Hooray: So Candice, tell us about yourself.
Candice: Hi everyone, my name is Candice Mathee and I own a makeup and hair company called Blush Pro Makeup.

I am married and am a mommy to a beautiful little girl called Payton. When I am not being entertained by her, I concentrate on my first love, MAKE UP. I work as a makeup artist in and around Durban and I also work as a medical sales rep. When not knee deep in make-up, I enjoy eating copious amounts of chocolate and laughing with friends. A day without laughter is totally a day wasted.

Hooray: How did you get into the wedding industry?
Candice: I started in the industry at the tender age of 19. I had just completed my studies and went to be an apprentice with another makeup artist who introduced me to the wonderful world of WEDDINGS, which now I cant get enough of!

Hooray: What inspires you?
Candice: I get my inspiration from almost everything. I follow a lot of international artists like Billy Brasfield and Pat McGrath as well as local makeup artists.

I love getting creative on styled shoots and collaborations and have just started dabbling in a bit of SFX (special effects make-up). I am passionate about learning, and growing and challenging myself, all the time!

Hooray: Running your own business can be hard, do you have a daily routine?
Candice: It is definitely hard, especially as I am a mom AND have a full time 9-5. So squeezing in my Blush admin after a hard day on the road, is always a little challenging.

I definitely always start my day off with a great cup of coffee and like to answer enquiries as they come through during the day. I dedicate one afternoon/evening a week to tackle all my invoicing and admin work and this keeps me slightly sane , but I wont lie, I do thrive on a certain level of chaos!

On my wedding days, I make sure that my brushes, make up and tools are all prepped the night before. I get a good nights sleep, as often we need to wake up in the early hours of the morning. A good breakfast and a great cup of coffee always starts my day off well before heading off to make pretty.

Hooray: What do you love most about your job?
Candice: The thing i love most about my job is
1) It’s different every day and I get to meet so many unique and wonderful people.
2) Every Saturday i get to spend the morning in a room full of unconditional love and happiness! You don’t get a job much better than that

Hooray: Being a Makeup Artist, you know how important good skin is, especially for your wedding day. Do you have any tips to make sure skin is in tip top condition?
Candice: YES! I find that the majority of brides do have gorgeous skin on their wedding day, which is great, but all too often, they forget to exfoliate. It is vitally important to get rid of all the flakey dead skin cells so that their foundation goes on well, and looks smoother on the skin. By doing this, the foundation will also last a lot longer. Another important step is to use a hydrating mask or serums. There is so much stress involved in a brides life leading up to the big day, a good hydrating product will give your skin the boost it needs to look radiant!

Hooray: Can you describe your style?
Candice: hmmmmm….. i think my style changes to suit my clients’ needs, but invariably it’s quite natural and soft.

Hooray: What is your favourite make-up ninja trick or skill?
Candice:  My number 1 makeup trick/skill has to be my blending! I pride myself  on it. I make sure everything, from foundation, contouring, blusher and eyeshadow are just perfect. I detest seeing solid lines on a face
*Hooray side note, we can totally vouch, her blending is PERFECT*

Hooray: Name 5 of your favourite wedding vendors that you enjoy working with?
Candice: I work with so many wonderful people in this wonderful industry, so many of whom I am so blessed to call friends. But these few hold a super special place in my heart:

Waterwoods Venue

Jo from Oh Happy Day

Hooray: Tell us, what is your hands own, absolute favourite product?
Candice: Oh my favourite product has to be a shimmer dust I found years ago from Alila called Golden Rose. I can’t explain the love I have for this product! Another two products that are so close to my heart are the Prep + Prime primer and Stripe Cream from M.A.C

Candice, thank you so much for sharing with us today, we just adore you and love watching you grow in this incredible industry!
