Kate
I was so excited to be asked by Christy to write an article on upcoming floral trends for 2017. We are completely wedding mad but Flowers have become my passion and designing and styling weddings for our beautiful couples is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

So often people underestimate the power of floral décor and design. Your wedding flowers really can make or break the entire look and feel of your wedding as they soften, brighten or add essential elements to the design and styling of your big day. Your flowers tie everything together and add balance and texture.

2016 has seen beautiful bold colours – magenta, marsala, dark and light pinks toned with reds. Brides have stepped out of the pastel and the safe zone and have been bold with their colour choices which have made for deep, warm and textured décor and florals. However in saying that the pastels have not disappeared either this year and always set the tone for a romantic and elegant backdrop as do neutral palettes. Warmth and texture have definitely been important and popular elements to wedding décor and design.

In 2017, I see floral elements continuing to be bold, with pops of warm, deep and bright colours. The reds, marsalas and cherrys wont disappear altogether but will be replaced by slightly more subtle blends or very bright tropical blends contrasted with the warm metallic décor pieces and vases. Foliage will be BIG in 2017 and I think we will continue to see suspended arrangements incorporating greenery, lighting and pops of the colour palette for the day.

Colour palettes incorporating blues and turquoise will be popular too but these can always be reflected in touches on your stationery or the odd vase and the florals kept more neutral in order to not be overpowering and to ensure your style retains its elegance.

With our KZN brides I see a huge trend towards less fussy and frilly décor and flowers, more towards natural tones and styling. Beautiful big leaves, glassware and potted plants all work beautifully to create a simplistic yet striking natural backdrop for your beautiful day. Equally patterns, florals and print are going to be big in 2017 and I expect to even see bridal gowns incorporating these elements.

Every couple wants to ensure that their special day retains their own personal touches and individuality and this really can be attained in your floral décor. Choosing the correct floral and décor stylist is vitally important for your big day. They know what works and what doesn’t and are continually excited about creating new and completely original designs whilst sticking to your vision for your special day. Whether you want oceans of huge masses for your special day, trailing garlands or simplistic posy’s in glass vases flowers really are the most important of your décor choices and add such vital elements. They finish off the canvas that is your day and pull everything together.

Thank you so much Kate for your time and for sharing your infinite knowledge with us!
