We stumbled across Kai & Anele’s wedding on Instagram and couldn’t help but dive deeper into their story via their wedding hashtag #ASgethitched. A little stalking later and we had fallen in love with their immaculate sense of style and utter swag.
We discovered a beautiful love story, that ultimately ended in matrimony and a gathering of people with the sole purpose of celebrating this couple.
Enjoy their story!

HOORAY: Describe yourself and Kai for us in 5 words
ANELE: Living in our own love bubble

HOORAY: How exactly did you meet? We believe Instagram was involved here?
ANELE: Kai commented on one of my pictures on Instagram asking why she wasn’t invited for lunch (I was at lunch with my best friend on the picture). I told her jokingly she can let me know when she’s in Rosebank and we can all have lunch. She requested my twitter handle, we followed each other on twitter, she sent a message and asked to take me out to lunch the next day. The rest is history…

HOORAY: Who proposed to who? Or did you just decide you wanted to get married?
ANELE: Kai proposed 3 months after we started dating.

HOORAY: Did you and Kai discuss before hand who would be wearing what on your special day?
ANELE: We did discuss it. The objective was for us both to be comfortable and happy with our choices. We only saw our outfits on the wedding day though.

HOORAY: How did you settle on that particular venue?
ANELE: Gosh we looked at a lot of venues and were so tired, our wedding planner insisted we go see this one. It was so far out (in Culling) that we actually considered turning back and going home. When we arrived it was perfect. The Victorian theme fitted so well with our wedding colour scheme (black, white & royal blue) and the owner was a dream to work with.

HOORAY: It looks as though you have a bit of a venetian theme going on – could you tell us more?
ANELE: We didn’t plan on having a theme, I think the venetian element comes through because of the venue. And then the colour scheme added to it.

HOORAY: Did you have a hard time finding someone to marry you?
ANELE: Actually our wedding planner looked for people on our behalf, and the second he introduced us to Ryan we were so happy. He marries same sex couples as well and we felt at ease with him and made the ceremony about us and how we wanted things to go.

HOORAY: There seems to be a theme amongst your guests, were they given directions on how to dress?
ANELE: Yes, all the guests were made aware of the colours of the day, and it was recommended they stick to it. Lol! I think it’s the only thing we hinted to, it always looks amazing when the guests are dressed in a few colours and everyone looked so amazing. My sister was the only person who decided to wear Gold, we all have one of those in our family. LOL

HOORAY: We LOVE your second outfits. Was this planned or a surprise? (See Insta pics at the end of post)
ANELE: It was planned. We wanted to change after the first dance. Our first outfits were perfect but we wanted more comfortable change of clothes. Clothes we could dance in and enjoy the rest of the evening with our family and friends.

HOORAY: Tell us about the celebrations, did they go on all night?
ANELE: No they didn’t, because our wedding had been at 11h30 in the morning. Also we got married on a Sunday and realised that most people would be going to work the next day and have to drive back from Culling to Johannesburg (and some even flew out that night). So the festivities went on until around 10pm.

HOORAY: Your favourite idea was…?
ANELE: Having a live band singing during our walk down the aisle and our first dance. We carefully selected our songs and it worked out perfectly. The words to the songs had more meaning having people sing them live. Priceless!

HOORAY: The best money was spent on…?
ANELE: Definitely the venue (The Victorian Manor – Cullinan)! It was gorgeous and we loved the fact that it was already decorated in black and white (which were 2 out of the three of our colours for the day). The grounds were magnificent and overall atmosphere was magical.

HOORAY: What are people still talking about?
ANELE: Everything about that day was perfect, and people are still talking about the venue and how gorgeous we both looked. We still have people (even strangers) post our pics and comment about how beautiful we were and that we both looked genuinely happy.

HOORAY: Tell us about the best advice you received?
ANELE: A friend said to us pick 3 things that are the most important to you both for the wedding. Have those 3 things in mind when you’re planning and on the day, everything else is secondary. Don’t sweat the small stuff otherwise you’ll go mad and fail to enjoy your day. So we decided that our 3 most important things were; actually getting married to each other (it has been an emotional journey), the venue and being surrounded by people who love and want to celebrate us.

HOORAY And finally, what was the highlight of your day?
ANELE: Our first dance, we loved the song we picked for the band to perform (Day One – Tamia). It was our moment and we enjoyed every second :)
