Heaven on Hemyock

This time last week, Christy and I were invited to spend the night at Hemyock Farm for their much-anticipated launch day.
While Hemyock might be the “new kid on the block” in the wedding venue world, Christy and I both agree that there is something magical about this place, and we know many wedding memories are going to be made here!

When you arrive at Hemyock, you cannot help but get swept away from the hustle and bustle of your fast-paced lives, and just clock out! Something which we all need to do every once and a while.
(By the way, for those of you that absolutely cannot live without your phone, there is really amazing wifi available!)

With a beautiful mountain backdrop, rolling lawns and a countryside feel, it really is a perfect spot for a wedding weekend!

Christy and I oohed and aahed as we were driving up the driveway (totally gave us GOT road vibes!) and we were greeted by friendly Dani, who helped us with our bags and showed us to our rooms. Christy and I were treated to the house by the pool, which had connecting rooms… perfect for us sisters!
Although it was just a tad bit cold for us Durban girls, the pool still looked so inviting, and it will be the perfect spot for a post-wedding pool day! We were so surprised to find the most thoughtful welcome gift waiting for us on our beds.
It was filled with luxurious products from some of Dani’s favourite places:
Chocolate from Winston & Julia, a candle from Cape Island, bath bombs from Rain, Nougat from Wedgewood and body products from Pepper Tree – what a spoil! Once we had put our bags in our rooms, and swooned over our welcome gifts, we headed to the terrace where lunch and picture-perfect G+T’s were waiting for us.

Our afternoon consisted of a tour around the grounds as well as a tour around the rooms and the honeymoon suite.
We were able to view both reception areas, as well as areas that can be used for your canape hour – there are just so many options for you to choose from, which is a big plus for a wedding venue!
The picture below is of the Moon Cottage, aptly named as this is where the new Mr. and Mrs. can spend the first night of their honeyMOON together…
The Moon Cottage has a dining room, kitchen and ensuite bedroom and it is actually available on Air BnB at the moment, so if you are wanting to experience the magic of Hemyock for yourself, why not take your fiance for a weekend away so you are able to really get the feel of what we are talking about… who knows, you might just fall in love and book your wedding venue then and there!
I so enjoyed having a look around the venue, but the room tours were a real treat as every time you entered a room, there was something new and delightful to woo over… and the bridal suite is literally every bride’s dreams!
It is the perfect size for you and your girls and has more than enough space for all the hair and makeup, dressing and accessorizing that goes on pre-wedding!

We finished off our evening with the most delicious dinner in the dining room.
All flowers were picked from Hemyock grounds and those chandeliers had Christy absolutely obsessed.
All catering was done by Phil and Leigh from The Crooked Fork and they really made sure we had the best, home-cooked meals – every single meal was absolutely scrumptious!

After a glass (or two) of red wine (thank goodness Uncle Cyril lifted the alcohol ban just before our stay!), I had a soak in the bath and climbed into bed. Even though we had connecting rooms, Christy and I decided to have a sister sleepover – something which we haven’t done in years and we both drifted off to sleep quickly.

The next morning, Christy decided to have a run around the grounds, while I snoozed in bed a little longer.
We then made our way to the main house where coffee and breakfast were served, after which, we reluctantly headed home!

If you would like a little bit of extra information about Hemyock, here is a part of their wedding package, which might answer some questions you have about this beautiful venue:

Our Wedding Package comprises of a two-night stay with full access to the entire farm. Weekend bookings are scheduled for the Friday and Saturday, however, further weekdays can be made available should you require. The wedding package price will include accommodation for 22 people (11 rooms with double beds) for two nights stay and the use of the farm as your wedding venue. The price also includes a Venue Facilitator to ensure your stay is seamless. Please note this is not a wedding co-ordinator and we strongly recommend that you employ the services of one for your special day.

The Venue hire consists of two Reception areas with electrical points. The ceremony, drinks and canapés locations can be arranged on any section of the farm, in the gardens, in the forests or even near the riverbeds.

For those with a more intimate wedding in mind, we have our Garden Reception area. This is situated directly in front of our dam and is abundant with lush greenery and plant life. This area will accommodate 120 guests comfortably. For a possible drinks and canapés site, there is a beautiful flow from the Farmhouse entertainment deck to the Garden Area.

For those with a bigger invite list, we have a larger area, The Terrace, which can accommodate +250 guests. This Reception area has a diverse backdrop with the mountains, top dam, barn and stables within sight. It is aligned with astoundingly large plane trees that provide shade for any outdoor lounge pockets. What makes this platform special is the sound of the trickling river nearby.

Dani, thank you so much for your amazing hospitality!
Christy and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hemyock and cannot wait to be back one day!
