May Wrap Up 2020

Do we even have the words to explain how mind-blown we are right now that today is the 31st of May?
No, no we do not.

It is officially the end of May and while we are in shock that yet another month in lockdown has come and gone, we are looking forward to a new month starting tomorrow and all that it holds… and by that, we mean how we can finally restock our champagne cupboard, hooray! (JK!)

Well, grab yourself a cup of coffee, and let’s have a look at the feel-good stories we saw in May.

  1. Debby Ryan & Joshua Duns are married
So technically, this did not happen in May, but the news spilled in May and we lapped up all the goodness of their wedding day! Their special day was featured in Vogue magazine this month, where we learned they had a SECRET wedding ceremony on New Year’s Eve (we are a sucker for a #NYE wedding!) which they planned in only 28 days.. yup you heard us correctly, 28 DAYS! If the pictures are anything to go by, then these two had a banger of a party – we have total FOMO now!

  2. Stoop Weddings
These two threw the most jaw-dropping stoop ceremony recently in Brooklyn and they have taken the insta world by storm with their florals by Lewis Miller Design and Irini Arakas Greenbaum. Their childhood pastor officiated the wedding via zoom, she wore her mom’s veil and her dad gave the “speech of the century” via Zoom. Vogue picked up this story and shared their magical day with the world, click here if you would like to read more.

  3. Drive-in Weddings
This is a trend that we can TOTALLY get behind! The future is so uncertain, so with intimate celebrations on the rise, we love seeing out of the box thinking like Bri + Lindsey’s wedding day. The day before their would-be wedding day, they received a phone call, telling them that one of their family members had tested positive for Covid19. This made them realise how short life is and how things can change in a moment so they decided that their love would not be canceled and hosted their wedding day at a drive-in movie theatre in Texas. They said their “I do’s” surrounded by 90 cars, safely filled with their loved ones.

  4. Speaking of Drive-In Weddings
We are SO excited to see that South African wedding vendors have jumped at the opportunity to host Drive-In weddings and one of our Hooray Directory members, Collisheen Estate, will start hosting these ceremonies as soon as they have the green light to do so. We recently saw a sneak peek of what brides can expect from this ceremony over on The Shank Tank’s insta page and immediately knew we wanted to share this amazing opportunity with you! If you are interested in hosting a drive-through wedding at Colisheen, you can get in touch with them here.
  5. Drive-by Bridal Showers
We have seen the cutest drive-by bridal showers, bachelorettes, and engagement parties popping up on our Instagram page lately, and we hope that this is a trend that South Africa can follow suit with shortly. It’s quite simple. All you do is a little set up outside your house, and friends and families drive past and drop off gifts for the bride and groom-to-be. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are still determined to go ahead with any of these events, this could be a way to do it.
  6. Live Stream Wedding
Gosh, every zoom wedding we have been seeing lately has been magical and unique in its own way, but we just had to share this one. These two were set to get married in Mexico when Corona brought their plans to a harsh halt. Instead of postponing their day, they hosted an intimate backyard ceremony and we have to say, they really put some amazing touches to their day.

  7. At home engagements
Nope, corona cannot stop love. Love is IMMUNE!
And these guys did not want to wait any longer to propose to the woman of their dreams. At- home engagements can be just as, if not more, romantic! We cannot wait to see more of these happening!
  8. Not waiting any longer
Carol and Annlie decided they were not going to wait any longer to say “I do” and decided to safely say their vows outside one of their friend’s houses. Their best man and maid of honour joined them, friends and family drove past to wish them all the best and their photographer kept her distance while she captured all the magic of the day.

  9. Prom?
Totally not wedding related but way too adorable not to share. When this cutie found out that his nanny’s Senior prom was cancelled due to Corona, he decided that he would throw her a “social distant” prom complete with him dressing up, her favourite foods, and a mini photoshoot. If he is pulling off such smooth moves like this at this age, then we can’t wait to see what a romantic he will be when he is older!
  10. COVID Support Group
In case you haven’t seen, we started a support group for all the 2020 brides to be and wedding vendors. This time is filled with so much uncertainty and pain that we all need to be a little kinder to each other. Come over and join us, we share funny memes, advice posts, and tips + tricks. It is also a safe space for you to voice your thoughts and feelings… many are in the same boat as you and can perhaps assist you with your worries. Click here to join our COVID support group.

And that’s a wrap for May!

If you have anything coming up in June that you would love to share or you think may inspire other brides, be sure to hit us up at info@hoorayweddings.com
