“I consider hair and makeup to be my art, but people is my passion!”
Meet Kezia Myatt, the owner of Blend Hair and Make-up.
She is a petite, blond bombshell with the kindest heart and one of our dearest friends. She is so incredibly dedicated to her family + friends and her talent in the hair + makeup industry knows no bounds. She is a pleasure to have in any studio or bridal suite, putting her clients right at ease with her friendly nature and utmost professionalism.
Her intention as a makeup artist is to not just have you leave you feeling beautiful, but also feeling positive about yourself; “I want you to enjoy the experience of having your makeup done, and I want you to feel excited about the event you are getting ready for”.
So enough gushing from us, scroll on down and learn a little more about this vivacious beauty.
Hooray: So Kezia, tell us about yourself
Kezia: Hi everyone! My name is Kezia Myatt and I’m a Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist at Blend Makeup and Hair. I work mostly in and around Durban but also parts of SA. I’m married to an incredible man and I’m a Mom to two wonderful little girls (of course they love my box of tricks) I love animals and I’m a chilli fanatic!!

Hooray: How did you get into the wedding industry?
Kezia: I started my adult life out in Media and Communications. But i would take any opportunity I had to do makeup on friends. Makeup is something I’ve always loved doing, but never thought it would be a reliable source of income. It sparked my creativity and there was always something new to learn from the different faces I did. After I had my daughter in 2010, I decided the corporate world wasn’t for me and off I went to study Makeup. I fell in love with the beauty side of the makeup course and loved the feeling of being around a Bridal Party on the most special morning of a Bride’s life. 6 years later, and about 50 odd weddings a year, I still get teary and emotional when the Bride sits in my chair.

Hooray: What inspires you?
Kezia: Collaboration and exchange creates greatness in our field!
Think of what we achieve when we put a team together. I think that by encouraging our peers, we are challenged to push ourselves. I’m inspired by the powerful team of individuals that form “The Wedding Industry”. Social media has created such a great platform for us all to learn, to grow and to be better than what we could’ve possibly imagined! Being able to pursue your passion and make a living from it is a gift that we are so lucky to share with our clients.
Hooray: What is the earliest you have ever had to wake up?
Kezia: 2am!!! Britt, Volenti and I did a wedding in Salt Rock, the ceremony was at 8am so that the family could set off on a cruise at 10am from Durban Harbor.
Hooray: Running your own business can be difficult, do you have a daily routine?
Kezia: Running your own business is tough! As a creative, staying on top of your admin is even harder! If I’m out on a shoot, I will always reply to emails just letting them know I’m not near my computer and I make a concerted effort to sit at my desk when I’m home. But routine has never really been my thing (not even with my kids), so mainly I just wing it…. which coincidentally is also how I like to wear my eyeliner
Hooray: Tell us about your ideal wedding client.
Kezia: That’s a tough question, all my brides are amazing and surprises me daily.
Hooray: What do you love most about your job?
Kezia: I love the fact that my job makes people happy. It makes people feel like the best version of themselves. I sometimes feel like I have super powers! Hahaha!

Jokes aside… Makeup is my art which brings out my clients spirit and confidence as well as expressing my vision. I also love the fact that it takes me to different places. We live in such a beautiful country and to be able to work in these environments is unbelievable.
Hooray: Can you describe your makeup style?
They say the eyes are the windows to our souls, so I’m all about making those eyes pop!
Hooray: If there was one thing you could change about the wedding industry, what would it be?
Kezia: I kinda love the wedding industry, there’s not much I’d change! I may suggest to brides “not to sweat the small stuff” or slow everything down, take a minute to breathe it all in… It goes by in a flash! Trust the teams you’ve hired, that’s what they’re there for.
Hooray: You get to travel to lots of amazing places, what is the best place you have seen so far?
Kezia: Without a doubt the vineyards in Cape Town

Hooray: Whats your poison?
Kezia: Well, the reason I love weddings in the Cape, is because I’m such a fan of fruit, well grapes, well fermented grapes.. wine, I just love wine!
**Hooray side note: we love fermented grapes too**
Hooray: Name 5 of your favourite wedding vendors that you enjoy working with.
Kezia: The wedding industry is so large, yet we tend to work with the same vendors for months at a time I’ve never had an awful experience with any vendor I’ve come across, in fact, it’s the opposite. Everyone is encouraging and supportive and I love them all! So cliched, but so true!

Hooray: Tell us about the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the job?
Kezia: The first music video I ever worked on was quite a biggie! I clicked immediately with the artist, so we spent a lot of the day chatting about his successes etc. At a late stage in the day, he asked me to be part of the one dancing scene in their video (kinda like their token white girl – LOL). After much resistance, I ended up in the front line with them, where one of the dancers got “mad” and pulled my pony out of my hair. This is all captured in the music video!
**Hooray side note: this is so bad ass! How is this the first time we are hearing of this!

Hooray: And lastly, if there was one piece of advice you would give all your brides, what would it be?
Kezia: Leave it to the professionals! We absolutely love what we do and we have YOUR best interest at heart.
Kezia thank you so much for sharing with us today – we simply adore you!
