Being comfortable on your wedding day, doesn’t mean you have to be drab. Kerryn, a self proclaimed tom boy, wore the most exquisite Julia Ferrandi tulle skirt and fitted bodice with a pair of pumps and was comfortable enough to swing a golf club during cocktail hour. You go girl!!
Kerryn & James’s wedding, shot by the talented Michigan Behn, was held in Fort Nottingham KZN at the recently renovated wedding venue Crystal Barn. We LURVE Crystal Barn for so many reasons and I’m certain that after seeing these photos you will too.
Hooray: Where did your wedding take place and why did you choose that venue?
Kerryn: We got married at the incredible Crystal Barn Country Estate in Fort Nottingham – the venue suited our vibe perfectly with its ornate and colorful venue and decor.
Hooray: How would you describe the style of your wedding? Did you have a theme, or colour scheme? What was your inspiration in planning?
Kerryn: When planning my wedding my main goal was to create a very relaxed atmosphere and vibe for a long lazy lunch with dear friends and family. I didn’t have a specific theme but I knew the things that I didn’t want, and those were any formal/smart elements. I didn’t want any flowers (roses to be specific) but only greenery which included growing herb pots, beautiful green garlands and gorgeous Silver Brunia fynbos balls. It all worked out perfectly and subtly fitted into our hashtag for the day #wegoingreen.

Hooray: Tell us about your wedding dress We LURVE the tulle skirt and low back.
Kerryn: The process of making my wedding dress was an absolute dream – It was definitely the most exciting part of the wedding prep! I am a bit of a Tom Boy so all the typical wedding dresses in the shops were far too “bridal” for me – I tried on a few but knew immediately that I wanted to get a custom dress designed… so I chose the super talented Julia Ferrandi. The skirt was the first and main feature of my dress, and when we chose the icy pink tulle I was over the moon! I had told Julia that I didn’t want anything too “bridal” – no lace or beading. It took some time to find the perfect fabric for the top, but in the end it had to be perfectly tailored to fit my body as there was minimal stretch. I had never imagined myself with such a low back but once Julia had created the mock up – I was sold!
Hooray: Now its the groom’s turn. Where did you find your get up?
James: No fuss, just went with the classic suit and tie.
Hooray: “Best spent money was on…”
Kerryn: The venue and food, the DJ and the dress.
Hooray: What was your biggest priority when planning your wedding?
Kerryn: The Venue
Hooray: If you had an unlimited budget, would you have done anything differently?
Kerryn: Nope, it was all perfect – I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Hooray: If you think back to that magical day, is there a moment that stands out for either of you?
Kerryn: The moment that stands out for both of us was when we walked into the venue as Mr and Mrs Greene to the vibey song, Happy by Pharrell Williams.
Hooray: What were your song choice?
Walking down the aisle: Georgia – Joy Vance
First dance: I’m going to be (500 miles) – Sleeping at Last
Father-daughter dance: It must be love – Madness.
Hooray: Were you the first or last to leave your wedding?
Kerryn: We were definitely one of the last to leave – we had the best day of our lives and didn’t want it to end!
Hooray: Finish the sentence: “We are so grateful to…”
Kerryn: … have so many special friends and family with us to celebrate our wedding day! And, of course all our incredible suppliers and all their hard work!
Hooray: Now that it’s all over and you have had time to reflect, what advice would you give your bestie?
Kerryn: Be relaxed and have fun!
