Sorry, but you are uninvited…

Okay, you have finally made the decision to cut down that guest list so you and your knight in shining armour can finally just say, “I DO”.
But now, here comes the difficult part… who do you uninvite? How do you uninvite them? Where do you start?

There is no denying it, this is going to be a tricky process… it might be even trickier than a seating plan for a wedding with 100+ guests.
But, you are just going to have to put your big girl panties on (or for the dudes reading this, your big boy boxers) and MAKE. THE. CUTS.

No matter which way you look at it, you will have someone saying “But I thought I was your work bestie/favourite neighbour/yoga instructor”… but at the end of the day, if you are finally going to say your nuptials, then think of this as the final level you need to get through of the “Getting married during a Pandemic” game.

Sorry mama’s, kids need to be left at home.
I did a poll on Instagram last week to see which group of people would be cut first, and kids won by a landslide.
If you had quite a few kids coming to your wedding, this would be a surefire way to cut that guestlist!
Moms might be grateful to drop the kids off with grandma so that she and hubby can finally have a “date night” after so long!
And for the moms that are not able to do so, they might politely say they will not be able to attend the wedding – as sad as this may be, it will also help your numbers.

Work Friends
Now look, I am not talking about that one work friend who has become like family, and you cannot get through your workday without her – she can stay.
I am talking about those ones that you felt obliged to invite to be polite, but they might just not be your favourite person in the whole wide world. CUT THEM off that list quicker than you can say “I do.”
You have the perfect excuse to uninvite them, just blame it on the Rona!

Distant Family
We all have those family members who we are never in touch with, but your Mom insisted that her cousin MUST be invited to your wedding! It’s time to cut them off your list! Snip, snip!
“Sorry Mom, Aunty Kathy can no longer come to the wedding – you know, Rona!”

Now just because you are making these changes, (and feeling as fresh as a girl who has just cut off her split ends),
does not mean you have to be rude to the guests you are uninviting. Sweet like honey will do the trick.

So, how can we say, “Sorry I have cut you from my guest list”, in a sweet like honey way?

Keep it simple.

In light of the current circumstances and for everyone’s safety, we have had to change our plans for our wedding.
We will be limiting our guest list to an intimate number.
Please accept our apologies for not having you with us on our big (now small) day.
We cannot wait to celebrate with you at a later date!

It’s a family affair.

In light of the current circumstances and for everyone’s safety, we have had to change our plans for our wedding.
We will be limiting our guest list to family members only.
Please accept our apologies for not having you with us personally for this occasion.
We cannot wait to celebrate with you at a later date.

Virtual is best!

In light of the current circumstances and for everyone’s safety, we have had to change our plans for our wedding.
For everyone’s personal safety, we will be limiting our guest list to an intimate number.
Please accept our apologies for not having you attend, however, we would love for you to attend virtually.
Looking forward to celebrating (virtually!) with you!

And there you have it.
You have cut down your guest list, sent out your apologies, and you are finally ready to say I do!
If any of your guests have anything snooty to say… just let the negativity roll off your back, and keep on going – ain’t nobody got time for that!

The hard work is done and now the most exciting new adventure awaits… marriage 🙂
