Marielle is a small town girl that has travelled all over the world. I have been following her along the way and always find myself drooling over her amazing travel photos!

An amazing soul, with such talent for capturing moments, Marielle has been blessed to photograph the magic of love all around the world from weddings to engagement shoots.

She has recently returned to Durbs and joined the Hooray Family – we are so happy to have her on board!

A girl of many talents and a lover of coffee, Marielle is sharing more with us today about “the girl behind the camera”

Hi! Please introduce yourself to the Hooray readers…
Hi guys, my name is Marielle and I am a photographer for my own business called Marielle Catherine Photography

Hooray: Tell us a bit more about yourself
Marielle: I scrapbook, drink tons of coffee, I do embroidery for fun & Digital drawings which I have recently integrated into my business. I love travelling and a little adrenaline rush never killed no-body – wait, that might not be entirely true!

Hooray: You have been travelling the world for some time now – tell us your favourite destination?
Marielle: Oh, I just can’t choose one! I’d have to say my favourite destinations are a tie between Mykonos, Greece & Norway

Hooray: How did you get into the wedding industry?
Marielle: I started out with photography when I was in school and later studied it. In college, I figured out slowly what I like shooting & that was people, and then when I did my first couple shoot, I was HOOKED. I loved capturing love. So I eventually upgraded to photographing the ultimate love stories, WEDDINGS.

Hooray: What inspires you?
Marielle: I am easily inspired, my mom is an artist, but some accounts are very inspiring Dylan Fox (photog), The Lane, Dirty Boots & Messy hair always have a good little inspo, Hooray Weddings (obvs) aaaaand a lot of local photogs – Vanilla, Christy Hosking, Little Things Pics, Michigan Behn etc.

Hooray: Running your own business can be hard, do you have a daily routine?
Marielle: Absolutely not. That would be insane. (don’t like routines) Only routine I abide by is coffee first the rest will follow. I just work hard and try to keep myself motivated by taking on more than one project at a time.

Hooray: Coffee first thing in the morning, do you have a fav coffee?
Marielle: Look. If there is no fancy coffee imma still drink the black water. But I LOVE a good cappuccino – froth is life

Hooray: Tell us about your ideal wedding client.
Marielle: My ideal wedding client is someone who really appreciates the finer things in life, wants the moments to be captured, not posed & loves my work.

Hooray: What do you love most about your job?
Marielle: I love handing over images to clients & hearing their responses. It’s LIFE

Hooray: Can you describe your style?
Marielle: I’d say Light-Moody & emotive

Hooray: If there was one thing you could change about the wedding industry, what would it be?
Marielle: The mainstream idea that every day needs to be a certain way. I’m dying to see couples break those boundaries in the upcoming years
**HSN: Preach!
Hooray: We have heard that you had to postpone your wedding, was this a difficult decision to make?
Marielle: I have to say it was emotionally a difficult decision to make but we also know it’s the right decision, which made it easier. Totally a “head over heart” decision.

Hooray: How did you come to this final decision?
Marielle: After a few days on lockdown we realized that our wedding felt soon. We also have grandparents that would be attending and their safety as a high-risk group is very important to us.
Hooray: How are you and Karl feeling after making this decision?
Marielle: Sad. But we are also super optimistic & really happy to have each other in a time like this, as he was almost stuck in America during this time.
Hooray: Are you going to make any changes or is everything staying the same?
Marielle: We really want everything to stay the same but we only had two dates to choose from, as our photographer is our non-negotiable, and one of the dates in December might not have our caterers as an availability. So we, unfortunately, may have to look at other options.
Hooray: Any advice for brides looking to postpone in this uncertain time?
Marielle: Honestly, just postpone! It will alleviate a lot of stress & uncertainty especially if you have people travelling to your wedding. Make it easier on them too & for your own sanity. It’s sad to postpone but there are other things you can do to still celebrate. I think it’s easy to get caught up in the frantic affair of postponing and feeling uneasy but I do think in a time like this just be grateful to still have each other & celebrate between you two. The memories of it will be far better than what you remember.

Hooray: Where do you see yourself and your company this time next year?
Marielle: I see myself busy and booked up doing many more international weddings!

Hooray: If you could be anything else in the wedding industry, what would you be and why?
Marielle: I’d probably either want to be a Wedding planner or a florist!! Planning my wedding has been a BLAST – I’d love to do that more often. And a florist because, well, I think the work they do is so beautiful!

Hooray: Tell us about your most embarrassing moment on the job.
Marielle: This one time I was photographing a couple and she lost her bouquet just before they were about to do the toss! I ran (didn’t grab no shoes or not-ING, I just raaaan!) to go and get her bouquet, slipped and fell on my bum, obviously, my hands were holding my camera up hahaha

Hooray: Your favourite place where you have photographed a destination wedding?
Marielle: My favourite wedding destination is definitely Cape Town! Sea, mountain, sunshine… umm yes! Sign me up, please! My fiancé and I are actually planning to move there at some point!

Hooray: Lastly, tell us about the last time you were really, really proud of yourself.
Marielle: I recently did an engagement shoot in the USA, and they hired me for their wedding in IRELAND!!!! Super stoked.

Marielle, thank you so much for sharing more with us today, as well as your thoughts on postponing your wedding. We know when your big day comes, it will be the most magical and memorable day ever!
