Tash and Rich are the bubbly and lovely couple behind Stories by Goya – a husband and wife team that can take care of not only your photography but also your videography on your wedding day, score!
Tash and Rich share a bit more with us today: how they got started in the wedding industry, what they like to do to unwind after a wedding and how they are both so connected to the ocean!

Hooray: Hi guys, please introduce yourself to the Hooray readers.
SBG: My name is Tash, and my husband is Richard (mostly known as Dick) and we run a photography + film company called Stories by Goya.
Hooray: Tell us a little bit more about yourselves.
SBG: Gosh. Where to start? We both LOVE the ocean. Rich to fish and myself to swim (I should have been a mermaid). We are obsessed with our 10 month old baby, Maverick and our two fur babies Indigo + Jack. We love good food and time with good people (family + friends) and we absolutely LOVE love stories.
Hooray: A husband and wife team, can you share the best and worst experiences of this?
SBG:
Best: Being comfortable with each other. It sounds like a weird thing to say but it makes such a difference shooting with someone you like (we often get lucky when we shoot with some of our industry friends). The couple and bridal party can sense it, and they are instantly more at ease. It’s having another “eye” there on the day that you trust. And for me (Tash) it is having someone to make sure I always have charged batteries and enough SD cards ha ha…
Worst: Being comfortable with each other and assuming the other knows when we are trying to get “that” shot 
Hooray: How did you get into the wedding industry?
SBG: So Rich started filming weddings first, working with our besties “The Shank Tank”, when they needed an extra cameraman and then they started recommending him on his own. I slowly started taking photos of friends and family and really loved every moment. I’m obsessed with stories. Telling them, hearing them, being a part of them. Side note – Goya is an Urdu word that means “A momentary suspension of disbelief that occurs when fantasy is so realistic that it temporarily becomes reality, usually associated with a story very well told. “As if / as though as it were” which is where our name comes from. So it was a natural progression heading up to booking my first wedding (with a lot of moral support and cheerleading from Stace). If you have to work weekends it should be doing something you love, and getting to do it with the person I love most just makes it all the more special.
Hooray: Tell us a bit more about how you chose your name, “Stories by Goya”
SBG: Gosh I think it was through a few things. I LOVE words. Especially words that have such mystical meanings. So when we came across this beautiful Urdu word, that spoke about the feeling you get when some tells a great story, I was like – “That’s it!” We want to tell people’s stories and in such a way that it feels greater than fiction.
Hooray: What inspires you?
SBG: We are inspired by the people we meet. Their stories. We are inspired by the power of love to triumph. We are inspired by this beautiful country we live in and all the incredibly talented creatives in this industry.
Hooray: A trend you are loving at the moment?
SBG: It’s not so much a trend, but what we love to see is how each couple takes the wedding day and makes it their own. From the bride saying a speech, to male bridesmaids and female groomsmen, cake as canapes and sneakers paired with sequins! Making new traditions and not apologising for it!
Hooray: Running your own business can be hard, do you have a daily routine?
SBG: It is so hard. But what has been hardest up to now has been juggling full time employment and our business. That should get better as we are both now officially self-employed – eek – so very excited about this new chapter. More than a daily routine there is a daily to do list. Whether it’s actioned in the morning or at mid-night it doesn’t matter as long as by the time we close our eyes the to-dos are done!! And that means if it’s a beautiful day we will be on the beach for an hour with our babies and just enjoying life!
Hooray: Tell us about your ideal wedding client.
SBG: Our ideal clients are couples who love to laugh. Who, when you meet with them, you can just feel the love vibes emanating from them. Couples who are excited to share their story and want the wedding day to reflect this. We love people and we love meeting people who show us something new about life and sometimes even about ourselves. We are pretty chilled, (unless if we are not making a dead-line, then my type-a persona comes out) and we love working with chilled, happy couples. But who is not happy when they are getting married?
Hooray: What do you love most about your job?
SBG: The people we get to meet. And capturing an emotion in a photo or a piece of film that forever after will have the power to transport someone back to that moment and the happiness that came with it!
Hooray: Your favourite part of a wedding day?
Rich: The creative shoot.
Tash: I love all the in-between moments. The smiles between a mom and daughter. Dad’s face before the first look. The stolen kisses. The groomsmen looking at the groom as he looks at his bride for the first time. The stolen kisses 
And just how ridiculously happy everyone is!!!
Hooray: Can you describe your style?
SBG: Relaxed and natural. I think we manage to make people feel comfortable (laughter has a lot to do with that) and it allows us to capture the day in a way that reflects the emotions.
Hooray: If there was one thing you could change about the wedding industry, what would it be?
SBG: The pressure that some brides feel to “keep up”. It’s your day, do it your way and it can only be amazeballs!
Hooray: The mistake you made that has taught you the most valuable lesson?
SBG: Always, ALWAYS!! stay on top of your bookings. Have a system that’s easy to reference. I once double booked Richard and it was super stressful but luckily we had a friend who could step in to film with me while Rich was at the other wedding and then he could edit both. Shew.
Hooray: If you had to get married (again) what would be the ONE non-negotiable?
SBG: Having our furbabies with us.
Hooray: Where do you see yourself and your company this time next year?
SBG: We will hopefully be booked up with one wedding a month for the next year. Having met more awesome people. And having the privilege of telling more beautiful love stories. And happy!
Hooray: If you could be anything else in the wedding industry, what would you be and why?
SBG: I would probably be a wedding planner if I wasn’t a photographer. As for Rich, hmmm, a chef? Ha ha…
Hooray: Tell us about your most embarrassing moment on the job.
SBG: Probably more funny than embarrassing and it happened to Rich not me (sorry babe). He was so committed to getting a specific shot that he got down real low… only for us to hear something ripping at the seams – his pants had totally split from the ankle! I think everyone was just relived it wasn’t the brides dress!
Hooray: Do you have any friends in the industry?
SBG: The Shank Tank, Andy + Szerdi, Darryl Monks, Casey Pratt (who shot our wedding), Roxi Wardman, Laura + Wadene from Nixon, Kirsty from Kirsty-Jayne Albums, Sadie Bosworth, Fats + Seraz from TTL Photography. I know I am forgetting someone (new mom brain) but every photographer or videographer we have been lucky enough to work with. They all inspire us to be better and do better work!
Hooray: Your favourite way to unwind after a wedding?
SBG: We, 99% of the time, choose to drive home to get to our babies (fur and human). A glass of wine is always a winner for me (Tash) and we love a snuggle on the couch with the doggies, because the human baby is normally asleep. The best way to unwind is knowing we wake up in our own beds with the whole day to relax. Soon though this mama and papa may take advantage and spend the night and get a granny and gramps on night shift!
Hooray: Lastly, tell us about the last time you were really, really proud of yourselves.
SBG: It may sound kinda lame but I am so proud of us every single day. It’s not easy to run your own business and keep the creativity alive and I do feel like we are #WinningAtLife (well, most days ha ha). Every shoot we do becomes our favourite and all the people we meet, friends.
